A very strong northerly wind of upto 60km/h whips up a fierce wind swell through the generally calm waters of Hervey bay. The sand bars that have built up and created the Pelican bank over countless years of tidal currents take a battering. On the right side of the cay you can make out a flock of pelicans nestled down in the relative lee of the winds.
