I got to this location the day before in anticipation of photographing an image such as this. This is a very short catchment and for it to flow with any note it requires a significant rain event. There was one on the cards and I had eagerly been watching it come to furition fpor more than a week beforehand. So upon my arrival the day before about 70mm of rain had fallen and it wasn't much more than a trickle, but I knew a lot more was on the way as a low pressure system tightened and nudged eastwards into a more favourable position. It poured all night and in the following morning after well over 100mm of rain a flash flood makes it's way down stream and plummeting over huge rock ledges and overhangs. A sight and sound to behold. |
